March 6, 2009 -- The tourism industry can play a relevant post-crisis role. The sector has been negatively affected by the economic downturn and in all likelihood will continue to be in the short to medium term. This is not however the first time that tourism has suffered a setback and, if handled correctly, it looks set to bounce back stronger than before.

Washington -- March 6, 2009- The World Bank’s Board of Directors approved a US$5 million grant to the Republic of Haiti to help rebuild public primary schools damaged by hurricanes and tropical storms that struck the country in August and September 2008.

Kingston, Jamaica, March 1, 2009 -- IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, is investing $20 million in Jamaica’s First Global Bank Ltd to help the bank expand services to small and medium enterprises, the largest generators of jobs locally, and serve the financing needs of the local business sector amid the global financial crisis.

We cannot underestimate the potential impact of this global crisis on our States. 

Guyana -- Feb. 26, 2009 --The third Regional Meeting of the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) European Union (EU) Joint Parliamentary Assembly (Caribbean Region) opened in Guyana yesterday, with the global financial and economic crisis and Europe trade relations with the ACP States high on the agenda.

Washington -- Jan. 26, 2009 -- The World Bank Board of Directors, on Jan. 15, approved a US$3 million zero-interest credit to increase youth employment in Grenada by providing private sector-driven training.

Caribbean Utility Regulators Meet in Belize

Belize -- Nov. 6, 2008 -- Floyd Phillips, President, Organization of Caribbean Utility Regulators, OOCUR: "The purpose of this meeting really is to pull the various regulators to try to discuss the possibilities of a common regulatory framework throughout the Caribbean and that is the theme of this conference and this is what we've been pushing for from the time we decided to form OOCUR."


CARICOM, Guyana -- Nov. 5, 2008 --  Under the theme, Leadership: Uniting Vision and Purpose, the Eighth Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Pan Caribbean Partnership against HIV and AIDS (PANCAP) was held on 29 -31 October 2008, in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
