    Feb. 12, 2009 -- France is struggling to quell revolts on its Caribbean islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique, amid fears that strikes and street protests could spread to other French overseas departments.

    Jamaica: 18,000 New Persons Find Employment

    Nov. 21, 2012 - The Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ) is reporting that 18,000 new persons were employed as at July this year, to bring the total number (of persons employed) to 1,094,700, an increase of 11,100 persons, relative to the similar period last year.

    May 4, 2012 - The Executive Council at its meeting of 19 April 2012 agreed that a temporary moratorium should be imposed on the issue of new work permits for the following categories of work permits during the period 1st May to 31st December, 2012:- Babysitter, Cook, Mason, Office Receptionist, Carpenter, Labourer, Plumber, Photographer, Electrician, Landscaper, Housekeeper, Bartender, Domestic Helper, Waiter/Waitress, Maintenance, Tiler, Painter, Store Clerk, Videographer, Cashier and Spa Therapist

    Basseterre - March 1, 2012 - The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis has deposited with the International Labour Office the instrument of ratification of the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 (MLC, 2006), thus becoming the 23rd member State to ratify the landmark Convention, which seeks to promote decent working and living conditions for seafarers and also create conditions of fair competition for ship owners.

    Barbados: Employment Rights Bill By Month-End
