    Medical Schools in Region Fight Caribbean Flow

But in a fierce turf battle rooted in the growing pressures on the medical profession and academia, New York State’s 16 medical schools are attacking their foreign competitors.

    Washington -- Mar. 1, 2010 -- The Inter-American Development Bank has approved $45 million in financing to improve Jamaica's education system and expand compulsory schooling from 16 years to 18 years of age.

    PUNTA DEL ESTE, Uruguay — Dec. 4, 2009 — As part of Microsoft Corp.’s efforts to promote jobs, opportunities, education and innovation through its Unlimited Potential initiative, the company announced that twenty-five nonprofit organizations in the region will receive a combined $1.925 million (U.S.) in cash, and another 155 institutions will receive software donations equivalent to $5.413 million (U.S.).

    Caribbean Aerospace College to Open in Jamaica

    Kingston -- March 18, 2009 -- Local construction firm, Surrey Paving and Aggregate, has partnered with Singapore's Air Transport Training College (ATTC) to open the Caribbean Aerospace College in Jamaica, (in the next 3 months), which will provide training in aircraft engineering.

    The Hague -- Jan. 7, 2009 -- The Dutch Government has increased its budget to improve education on the BES islands Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba.

    Kingston -- Dec. 18, 2008 -- Jamaica will build and repair schools and improve the quality and efficiency of its primary education system with a $14 million loan approved Dec. 17 by the Inter-American Development Bank.

    Jan. 14, 2013 - Steps are being taken here to phase out the Common Entrance Examination by the year 2014.
