Port of Spain, 8 February 2012 – Violent crime has become the main challenge facing Caribbean countries, warns the Caribbean Human Development Report 2012 launched here today by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Port of Spain --Feb. 8, 2012 -- Violent crime in the Caribbean can be overcome if a right mix of policies and programmes is carried out to prevent violence, according to the first Caribbean Human Development Report 2012 launched by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) here today.

Dec. 15, 2009 -- The European Commission approved the first financing decisions in favour of eleven African and two Caribbean countries for a total of € 230 million, including € 215 million under the so-called Vulnerability FLEX mechanism (V-FLEX).

Feb. 6, 2012 -- At the ALBA summit in Venezuela this weekend, President Hugo Chavez announced the elaboration of an economic framework — called EcoAlba — for the bloc, as well as the creation of a permanent secretariat, and two small nations officially gained full membership in the trade and integration agreement.
