NEMO (Saint Lucia) and Council sign MOU
St. Lucia -- March 5, 2007 --The National
Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) and the National Council
of/for Persons with Disabilities [NCPD] have signed a Memorandum of
Understanding that will assist both Agencies in the delivery of their
mandate of preparedness and response. The
agreement strengthens the growing relationship, which started three
years ago with NEMO providing information to the Council Members on
disaster preparedness. The MOU covers ground breaking areas such as:
- Training;
- Information Sharing;
- Provision of sign interpreters for audio/visual programs;
- Facilitating
the translation of documents for ease of use for the visually impaired
and blind [i.e. Braille, tape or large print.;
- Membership on appropriate National Committees;
- Providing Instructors to join the NEMO Instructor Cadre;
The MOU, which came into effect on February 19, 2007, and was signed by the President of the Council and the Director of NEMO.

3.0 Earthquake in St Lucia
Castries, Saint Lucia - 27 December, 2006 --- Proof that the need
to be prepared is not restricted to the Hurricane season of June -
November, the Seismic Research Unit has confirmed that an earthquake
did occur in Saint Lucia. On Thursday night 22nd December at 9:28 and 9:30 p.m. local time, two earthquakes occurred in north Saint Lucia. The full parameters of the event are as follows:
14.01N, 60.93W Depth 15km
Magnitude 3.0
The events were reported as felt in north Saint Lucia.
