NEMO (Saint Lucia) and Council sign MOU

St. Lucia -- March 5, 2007 --The National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) and the National Council of/for Persons with Disabilities [NCPD] have signed a Memorandum of Understanding that will assist both Agencies in the delivery of their mandate of preparedness and response.
 
The agreement strengthens the growing relationship, which started three years ago with NEMO providing information to the Council Members on disaster preparedness.
 
The MOU covers ground breaking areas such as:

  • Training;
  • Information Sharing;
  • Provision of sign interpreters for audio/visual programs;
  • Facilitating the translation of documents for ease of use for the visually impaired and blind [i.e. Braille, tape or large print.;
  • Membership on appropriate National Committees;
  • Providing Instructors to join the NEMO Instructor Cadre;
 
The MOU, which came into effect on February 19, 2007, and was signed by the President of the Council and the Director of NEMO.

Castries, St. Lucia -- 21 Feb., 2007 --- The Saint Lucia Solid Waste Management Authority is presently fine tuning the waste management programme and issues to be addressed with respect to the hosting of Cricket World Cup all in an effort to ensure that a high standard is maintained in the management of solid waste.

Castries - 12 Jan., 2007 -- - Saint Lucia has been invited to take part in a regional table top exercise focusing on preparations for Cricket World Cup 2007.

Canaries, Saint Lucia - 28 Dec., 2006 --- Disaster Management took a significant step forward when on their own initiative the Canaries Disaster Committee presented the Director NEMO with a Draft Disaster Plan for the district for Cricket World Cup 2007.

3.0 Earthquake in St Lucia

Castries, Saint Lucia - 27 December, 2006 --- Proof that the need to be prepared is not restricted to the Hurricane season of June - November, the Seismic Research Unit has confirmed that an earthquake did occur in Saint Lucia.  On Thursday night 22nd December at 9:28 and 9:30 p.m. local time, two earthquakes occurred in north Saint Lucia. The full parameters of the event are as follows:

The events were reported as felt in north Saint Lucia.

Castries, Saint Lucia - 26 Dec. 2006 - The Saint Lucia Cadet Corps held its National Recruit Camp over the weekend at the Leon Hess Secondary School at Entrepot. The Camp was directed at the students of the various secondary schools who had recently joined the Corps during the recruitment drive.  The program comprised lessons, discussions, demonstrations, field exercises, drills and written work.
