When Steel Talks is dedicated to pan worldwide with particular emphasis on Pan In New York. It is a Basement Recordings, Inc. initiative designed to promote and educate the global community on, the culture of the Steelband.

August 25, 2007 -- Hip-hop recording superstar Wyclef Jean recently joined New York's Pantonic Steel Orchestra in their Brooklyn practice facility known as the "pan yard."

30 Dec., 2006 ---When Steel Talks, the global internet resource center for all matters related to the steelpan instrument named Mrs. Anna Raffoul as the 2006 recipient of the prestigious When Steel Talks Steelband Personality of The Year.  Anna Raffoul is the current president of the Dominica Steelband Association.  The award is given to the person who has had tremendous impact on the steelband music world through their work in promoting the art form and inspiring others. 

St. John's, Antigua --- 6 Dec. 2006 ---  Let's be totally honest here. How many Heads of State can honestly say that they listen to pan music religiously or even say they love steelpan music?  How many Heads of State will actually take in steelpan shows because they really want to be there?  Is there any Head of State who can call themselves a panman or a panwoman?  One in Antigua & Barbuda can.


Dominica's Young Musicians Take Center Stage

Roseau,   Dominica  - It has been less than six months since Dominica pulled off one of the best steelband events for 2006.  Last Spring Dominica served as the host for the 2006 OECS Junior Steelband competition.  The competition received rave reviews and attracted participants from six nations within the eastern Caribbean region.

Undaunted, driven and focused, Dominica remains on course to having not only a major resurgence in steelband activities within the island, but also becoming a dominant force in the near future.

San Fernando---11 Oct. 2006--- The Chinese community in Trinidad and Tobago celebrate the two hundredth anniversary of their arrival on the shores of Trinidad and Tobago this year on October 12.  It is the first time that the community has had an official holiday to commemorate their arrival, and they have made much use of the opportunity in the weeks and months prior to the great day, proudly showcasing the talent of their people, their influences by, and in turn impact on, Trinbagonian life and culture.  

Carifesta IX In Pictures

Laventille---28 Sept. 2006---Laventille was in the spotlight when it unveiled the 'Eight of Hearts' Steelband music concert on Sunday September 24. This was the community's unique celebration in honor of Carifesta IX - with an offering of eight of the best steel orchestras in Trinidad and Tobago putting on star-studded performances on the grounds of the Laventille Community Complex.
