Jan. 22, 2013 - (compasscayman.com): The auditors’ discovered that the department “was paying a monthly payment of US$7,500 per month or US$90,000 per annum to a company located in Miami, Florida, that promotes the Cayman Islands as a wedding destination. However, we have not seen any evidence of tendering nor a formal agreement for service.

Jan. 20, 2013 - The total revenue raised by the Consolidated Fund for fiscal 2011/12 was approximately $914.2 million, down $82.5 million (8.3%) from the previous year. Revenues were below the original budget estimates by approximately $25.9 million (2.7%) The weakening economy and the rollback of payroll tax rates were the principal reasons for the reduction.

Jan. 17, 2013 - The highest ranks of the V.I. Police Department were thrown into further turmoil Tuesday as V.I. Police Commissioner Henry White Jr. announced his resignation with harsh words about the territory's law enforcement leadership structure. "The management style of this commissioner and the political structure in the territory are not compatible," White said.

Jan. 17, 2013 - Economic growth in Latin America and the Caribbean region slowed sharply in 2012, making the region the second slowest performer, after developing Europe and Central Asia, amongst all developing regions of the world. A weak external environment and a contraction in domestic demand were largely responsible for a tepid regional GDP growth estimated at 3 percent in 2012 (4.3 percent in 2011).
