Reston, Va. — Feb. 24, 2010 -- The threat of additional damaging earthquakes in Haiti will remain for the next year.

BRADES, Montserrat (February 11, 2010) – There was only minimal ash fall in inhabited areas as a result of a partial dome collapse at the Soufriere Hills Volcano on Thursday afternoon says a statement from the National Disaster Preparedness and Response Advisory Committee (NDPRAC).

Oct. 19, 2009 -- Activity since October 17 has been relatively low. However, regular rockfall and small pyroclastic flow signals continue, although most of these have had run outs of considerably less than 1 km. Small pyroclastic flows have occurred in Tuitts Ghaut, White River, Tyers Ghaut and the Gages valley. This activity strongly suggests that the lava dome at the summit of the volcano is continuing to grow. The cyclicity in activity identified during high activity on October 16, has now diminished and events are now more sporadic. Activity could however increase at any time.

Oct. 13, 2009 -- Following a lull in pyroclastic flows and rockfalls at Soufriere Hills volcano overnight, activity increased once again on the afternoon of October 13.

Flemmings -- Oct. 10, 2009 -- An increase in ashfall is likely in the coming days, says the Montserrat Volcano Observatory (MVO). Friday’s midday report by MVO Director, Dr. Paul Cole said a change in wind direction on Friday morning caused ashfall in Salem, Olveston and Woodlands.

Sept. 3, 2009 -- At 5pm, all tropical storm warnings associated with Erika have been discontinued. Interests in northern Caribbean Sea should continue to monitor the progress of Erika.

Aug. 26, 2009 -- nhc.noaa.gov -- Interests in the Bahamas and southeastern United States should monitor the progress of Danny.

August 18, 2009 -- (nhc.noaa.gov): Interests in the Leeward Islands should monitor the progress of Bill. At 5am, the center of Bill was located 810 miles east of the Leeward Islands. Bill is moving toward the west-northwest near 17mph and this motion is expected to continue for the next day or two with a gradual turn to the northwest on Wednesday.

August 8, 2009 -- According to its August Atlantic hurricane season outlook, NOAA now expects a near- to below-normal Atlantic hurricane season, as the calming effects of El Niño continue to develop.

Fort Collins -- June 2, 2009 -- The Colorado State University hurricane forecast team today predicted a slightly below-average 2009 Atlantic basin season based on a cooler-than-normal tropical Atlantic and the greater potential for a weak El Nino during the bulk of the hurricane season.
