    May 6, 2013 -- The Organization of American States (OAS) through the Secretariat of Multidimensional Security (SMS) and the Inter-American Committee against Terrorism (CICTE) released today the report “Latin American and Caribbean Cybersecurity Trends and Government Responses.”

    Barbados Commits to Drug Treatment Courts

    March 31, 2013 - The government of Barbados signed an agreement with the Organization of American States (OAS) to implement a pilot Drug Treatment Court project to promote judicially supervised treatment alternatives to incarceration for drug dependent offenders.


    Oct. 1, 2012 - Although several contraband flows affect the region, the paramount crime issue is cocaine trafficking, the groups empowered by it, and the violence associated with this flow. This study finds that while cocaine trafficking has undeniably catalyzed violence in some areas, the security problem in the region is much deeper, rooted in weak governance and powerful sub-state actors.

    Trinidad: Stephen Williams acting CoP

    Port-of-Spain - August 1, 2012 - For the second time in four years, this country will have an acting Police Commissioner in the person of Stephen Williams, 51, who will serve a six-month term, beginning on August 7, the Police Service Commission (PSC) announced yesterday. Williams is due to take up office on that date and will serve until January 31, 2013.

    Port-of-Spain - July 31, 2012 - Canadian-born Trinidad and Tobago Police Commissioner Dwayne Gibbs and his compatriot Deputy Commissioner Jack Ewatski have resigned with more than a year of their three-year contracts remaining. Their resignation letters were dated July 26, 2012 and they take effect on August 7.

    Bahamas: PLP Uncovers Scandal in Tourism

    Nassau - May 5, 2012 -We wish to bring it to the attention of the Bahamian people that the Prime Minister is aware of a major scandal involving a member of his cabinet and involving millions of dollars in taxpayers’ money.  It is so bad that the Prime Minister had to intervene in March to instruct the Secretary to the Cabinet to have the contracts in question cancelled. But the Prime Minister still has not taken any action against the minister. Nor has the Prime Minister said anything about this matter to the public. The minister in question is the Minister of Tourism, Vincent Vanderpool-Wallace.


    Feb. 14, 2012 - Representatives from the United Kingdom (UK) and the Caribbean have agreed to establish a UK/Caribbean Expertise Exchange Mechanism, to further collaborate in the fight against drugs and international crime.

    Nov. 21, 2011 - The highest authorities of Public Security in the Americas Nov. 20 concluded their meeting in Port of Spain with the adoption of a series of concrete recommendations to strengthen police training and use of new technologies in the hemisphere. The recommendations will be communicated to the Heads of State at the Sixth Summit of the Americas, to be held in Cartagena de Indias (Colombia) in April 2012.
