    Feb. 1, 2012 - The stage has been set for the convening of the Twenty-Second Meeting of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Council for Human and Social Development (COHSOD) on 2 February 2012 in Georgetown, Guyana.

    Assumption of new SG marks new era for CARICOM


    CARICOM Secretariat, Guyana -- Aug. 16, 2011 - Chairman of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), the Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas, Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis on Monday said that the assumption of office by the new Secretary-General of CARICOM, His Excellency Irwin LaRocque, marks a turning point in the history of the Community.

    CARICOM Secretariat, Guyana -- July 22, 20110-- Ambassador Irwin LaRocque has been selected to serve as the seventh Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) by the Heads of Government. Ambassador LaRocque, 56, a national of Dominica replaces His Excellency Sir Edwin Carrington of Trinidad and Tobago.

    June 17, 2011 - Dr. the Honourable Errol Cort, Minister of National Security and Labour of Antigua and Barbuda and Chairman of the Caribbean Community’s Council of Ministers of National Security and Law Enforcement (CONSLE), met today via video conference with staff of the CARICOM Implementation Agency for Crime and Security (IMPACS) and its two sub agencies, to appraise them on the latest developments and to engage them in the process of restoring confidence, following a series of allegations in the press.

    CARICOM Secretariat, Guyana -- June 2, 2011 -- The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Council for National Security and Law Enforcement (CONSLE) has commissioned a special-purpose audit to probe further into the operations of the Implementation Agency for Crime and Security (IMPACS). 

    May 27, 2011 - The Joint Electoral Observation Mission (JEOM) in Haiti deployed by the Organization of American States (OAS) and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) recently highlighted that, in terms of efficiency, the second round of the presidential and legislative elections in the Caribbean country “was indeed far superior to the first round from a technical, organizational and security point of view.”

    May 24, 2011 - Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Trade Ministers have agreed that CARICOM’s responses must be bold, innovative and multisectoral to ease the consequences of the soaring costs of fuel and commodities on the Region. They therefore recommended a number of measures aimed at combating the proble.


    COFCOR considered the matter of the Caribbean Sea and endorsed the proposal for operationalising the Caribbean Sea Commission as a key regional ocean’s governance mechanism. The COFCOR considered a number of initiatives for intensifying action nationally, regionally and internationally for further enhancing the Region’s security. In this context, they considered the forthcoming negotiation of an Arms Trade Treaty to be of special importance and endorsed the Draft CARICOM Declaration on Small Arms and Light Weapons.


    May 5, 2011 - The Hon. Tillman Thomas, Prime Minister of Grenada and Chairman of the Conference of Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Heads of Government, on Wednesday recorded the Community’s satisfaction with the death of Osama Bin Laden.

    April 11, 2011 - A bill was passed in the House of Assembly at its sitting on the 5th April 2011 to authorize the Government to borrow US$2.57 million from the CARICOM Development Fund.

    March 22, 2011 - The OAS-CARICOM Joint Electoral Observation Mission has observed through the 201 observers that it deployed throughout the country that the second round of the presidential and legislative elections was quite an improvement in many ways on the first round
