Nov. 29, 2011 - AMR Corporation ("the Company"), the parent company of American Airlines, Inc. ("American") and AMR Eagle Holding Corporation ("American Eagle"), ....today filed voluntary petitions for Chapter 11 reorganization in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York.



Kingston, Jamaica -- Nov. 22, 2011 -- At a special event in Kingston, Jamaica, JetBlue Airways' Chief Commercial Officer Robin Hayes announced that the value airline intends to grow services from the island's capital and largest city next spring, launching twice daily nonstop flights to Fort Lauderdale, Florida beginning April 30, 2012.

New York - April 26, 2011 -  JetBlue Airways, the largest carrier in Puerto Rico in terms of capacity, is making it even easier to travel between San Juan and neighboring Caribbean islands with the announcement of plans to launch nonstop daily service to St. Maarten (SXM), subject to receipt of government approval.

Port-of-Spain --Feb. 11, 2011 -- Caribbean Airlines Limited has been denied the right to fly between Barbados and Fort Lauderdale in Florida and between St Lucia and New York by the United States’ Department of Transportation.

Dec. 13, 2010 - A new regional aircraft launched here this morning – CARICOM Airways – will deliver cheaper, safe and more timely flights between St. Lucia and Dominica, its first route.


Ottawa-- Feb. 9, 2010 -- Canada’s Transport Minister, John Baird, and the Honourable Peter Van Loan, Minister of International Trade, has announced that effective immediately airlines can provide more flight options between Canada and the Caribbean.

Miami Dec 29 09- A former president of the Jamaica Airline Pilots Association (JALPA) has sent an open letter to both Spirit and American Airlines advising of the high potential for disaster, and requested that they exercise extreme care when dispatching flights into Jamaica in marginal weather and not use Jamaican airports as alternates under any circumstances until the NTSB report is final.

Kingston -- Dec. 23, 2009 -- An American Airlines Flight, Number AA 331, was involved in a landing mishap last night (December 22), after it presumably overshot the runway at the Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA), in Kingston, Jamaica.


Dec. 16, 2009 -- British Airways is commencing legal action in an attempt to protect customers from the massive stress and disruption threatened by Unite's decision to call a 12-day strike from December 22.

Air Jamaica Close to Divestment


Kingston -- Dec. 12, 2009 -- Minister of Finance and the Public Service, the Hon Audley Shaw, has said that negotiations for the sale of Air Jamaica are now at a stage where divestment seems imminent.


Boston -- Dec. 2, 2009 -- Effective May 3, 2010, JetBlue Airways will give a substantial boost to its Caribbean flight schedule, offering Boston travelers 25 percent more departures to cities including Aruba; Cancun, Mexico; Montego Bay, Jamaica; and San Juan, Puerto Rico.




Nov. 13, 2009 -- Captain Nigel Harris, CEO of Fly Montserrat announced on Thursday that the airline will begin regular scheduled flights on December 1, 2009.

April 25, 2009 -- The Management of Montserrat Airways Ltd. has issued a press release announcing that the company has finally positioned itself and will begin operations of what has is believed to be the first registered Montserrat airline.

Jan. 28, 2009 -- The national airline Air Jamaica will announce job cuts next month as part of its rationalisation programme to return to profitability.
