Brades, Montserrat, GIU --- 1 Dec. 2006 ---
Air Montserrat the new air
service operating on Montserrat
began business today (Dec. 1) ferrying
stranded passengers in an out of
the island.
Over 30 passengers booked to the
WINAIR flights between
Montserrat and Antigua have been
unable to take their scheduled
flights because of high winds at
Geralds Airport.
Malcolm Harris, Operations
Manager at Airport Services
Limited which handles flights
for WINAIR said “the winds here
at Geralds Airport have been
above 30 knots for the most part
of the day and so we have not
been able to have any WINAIR
flights land or take off from
Geralds Airport. What we have
been doing is refunding
passengers their airfare and
some passengers have been going
over to Air Montserrat and
booking seats on their charter
service.”
Air Montserrat operated its
inaugural flight out of
Montserrat at 6:30am on Friday
December 1st 2006, with a return
flight out of Antigua’s VC Bird
International Airport at 7:30am.
Since then the airline has been
providing an alternate air
transport service between
Montserrat and Antigua.
Philip Rogers, CEO and Founder
of Air Montserrat said: “it’s
been a very busy first day for
us today, we have been dealing
with quite a large number of
passengers trying to get out of
Montserrat and those trying to
get into Montserrat and we’ve
been really booked up.”
The airline is operating a
Britten Norman Islander that
holds up to nine passengers, and
also offers charters to other
neighboring Caribbean islands,
sight seeing tours, and cargo
lift.
One-way fares between Montserrat
and Antigua start at US$65
inclusive of all taxes and
charges.
