St. John's, Antigua --- 13 Nov. 2006 --- As athletes prepare for participation in the ABTA's Let's swim, Let's bike Let's run triathlon race December 10, they can do so with the knowledge that on race day, the route will be well policed. That's because the Royal Police Force of Antigua & Barbuda police has pledged its full support. Inspector Lauchland Charles has been selected to advise the planning committee on how to make this event successful and incident-free.

Starting at Dickenson Bay, the race exits Anchorage Road traveling southward onto Anchorage Road, right onto Fort Road, left onto Dickenson Bay Street, right onto Cross Street, left onto Bishopgate Street, right incline at the Round-about onto Independence Drive, left onto All Saints Road, continuing on All Saints Road through All Saints, Liberta, Falmouth, Cobbs Cross, English Harbour and Shirley Heights, the finish line for the race.

There are three main categories for participation – the individual tri-athlete, the
3-member team and the 9-member team. According to Owen Clashing, president of ABTA, "a triathlon race has three disciplines and four key points in the race. These key points are the start, the swim/bike transition, the bike/run transition and the finish."

The swim will take place at Dickenson Bay. The swimmers will exit the sea at The Beach Restaurant and the first transition point for the swim/bike race will be in the Antigua Village parking lot. The tri-athletes will change into their official T-Shirts, lace up their bike shoes and ride out. At Cobbs Cross, the second transition point, the tri-athletes will again lace up, this time their running shoes, and take the 2 mile challenge up to Shirley Heights and the finish line.

The 3-member relay team will make their first handover from the swimmer to the biker at the first transition point at Antigua Village. Their second handover will be at the intersection at Cobbs Cross. The third athlete will then run to the finish line at Shirley Heights.

In the case of the 9-member team, the logistics are very challenging for the organizers but the participants in this category should enjoy themselves, prepare themselves for future participation in the sport, and provide a lot of fun for the spectators. The swimmers will do relays of 500 meters each, with the anchor leg swimmer handing over to the lead-off team biker at the first transition point in the parking lot. The second biker will be positioned in the vicinity of the Liquidation Yard Sale establishment on All Saints Road where the first bike-to-bike handover will take place. The second bike-t- bike handover will be at Matthews, a short distance to the entrance of the All Saints Secondary School. The bike anchor rider will then ride to the Cobbs Cross transition at which point the exchange from bike to run will take place. The first runner will start once the transition is made and will handover to the second runner at the start of the hill to Shirley Heights. The anchor-leg runner will be stationed at the entrance to the Interpretation Centre to receive the handover and then charge up to the finish line to end the race.

In each of the three main categories, there will be a number of sub-categories, age 12-19, 20-39, and over 40 also vying for medals in the first 3 finishes. Several special categories are also included:

·School team

·Non Governmental Organization team (NGO)
