The Calabash Consortium conducted their signature MYjOURney ™ workshop to empower young calabashes in Trinidad.

Port of Spain, Trinidad - Sept. 6, 2010 - Beaming with enthusiasm, 70 primary school students from rural communities Brasso Seco, Carapo, Talparo, Sallybia and Fishing Pond gathered for the first day of the Brighter Day Summer Camp to experience an empowerment filled week. The camp was organized in partnership with Shashamane Sunrise and ran from August 16-20 centering around empowerment, science, sports and arts, and culture.

The Calabash Consortium, along with NIHERST, BG Science Bus and Fondes Amandes, the University of Trinidad and Tobago ("UTT") Biomedical Engineering Department, the UTT Academies of Performing Arts, and Sports and the Jtography team conducted sessions that engaged the students. Others well experienced in their respective fields such as designer Meiling, artist Che Lovelace, publicist to the stars Karen Hunter, and Miss Universe 1998, Wendy Fitzwilliam were all on hand to expose the young participants to worlds beyond their boundaries.

For three days of the week, the Calabash Consortium conducted MYjOURney ™, their youth empowerment program which challenges youth to engage in possibility-oriented planning with enthusiasm and vigor. The program guides youths in creating a roadmap for their future by analyzing their current location and mapping out the actions necessary to get to their destination. The program inspires youths to achieve their dream and positioned them to be architects of their future.

Sponsors of the MYjOURney ™ program included the Cascadia Hotel and Conference Center, Kevin Carroll Katalyst LLC, Toute Bagai Publishing and UTT.

The camp was well received by students and their teachers, who were unanimous in their view that the MYjOURney ™
experience would prove to be irreplaceable in their students' lives.
