All-round performances help West Indies XI to victory
April 18, 2010 -- Shivnarine Chanderpaul smashed a half-century while Sulieman Benn
picked up a three-wicket haul as West Indies XI defeated Ireland by 18
runs in the second Twenty20 played at Sabina Park on Saturday.
Electing to bat, the hosts piled up 171-7 in 20 overs with top scores from Chanderpaul (64) and Wavell
Hinds (45). Alex Cusack was effective
in the middle overs with his spell of 3-19.
In reply, Ireland got off to a good start cruising at 123-3 in the 16th over with wicket-keeper Niall O'Brien on 62 and Paul Stirling on 33. Tight bowling led by slow left-arm spinner Benn (3-32) helped apply brakes as the opposition was reduced to 153-7 in 20 overs.
