Wildlife area should be National Park, not a water park
Bridgetown---Oct. 7. 2006---In a bid to save the sensitive environmental lands at Graeme Hall from a water park development, the Friends of Graeme Hall Committee have announced their support for a new National Park at Graeme Hall.

According to Allan Marshall of the "Friends of Graeme Hall Committee", the most significant wildlife area in Barbados deserves protection as a National Park, and should not be developed as a water park.

A proposal to establish a National Park will be presented at 4:00 p.m. at Graeme Hall Nature Sanctuary on Saturday, October 14, 2006.The Sanctuary will open its doors at 3:30 p.m. free of charge to the public.Free maps, reference guides and refreshments will be available to all interested persons.

"On October 14 at 4 p.m. we will announce our formal support to government to create Graeme Hall National Park, not only in the Graeme Hall wetland, but also in the sensitive upland buffers up to the ABC Highway," said Marshall.

Marshall said that the Committee was not opposed to foreign investment or the concept of a water park for Barbados, but noted that there are better locations elsewhere on the island for such intense development.

"We understand that government has already begun the process of planning environmental policy and management of the Graeme Hall area," said Marshall."We support any effort that will protect the environmental and agricultural lands as part of a new Graeme Hall National Park. This is a legacy we can give to our children."
