July 26, 2006....Air Jamaica, BWIA West Indies Airways Ltd, Caribbean Star and LIAT will divide duties based on their capabilities under the air transportation contract for Cricket World Cup 2007 (CWC 2007).

Their joint bid by the airline to transport teams, officials, media and sponsors associated with the competition was accepted by the CWC 2007 organisers last week, the airlines stated in a release yesterday.

The statement said the airlines are still finalising the contractual details.

The bid by the Caribbean Carrier Consortium is the first collaborative effort to be undertaken by a consortium of carriers within the Caribbean region. The group stated that Air Jamaica and BWIA will support the long haul, heavy demand segments, while Caribbean Star and LIAT will support the shorter haul inter-island flights.

Mike Conway, president and CEO of Air Jamaica said, "We now have at hand a major and official role to ensure that this world-class event is a success."
