Antigua Police Gain 7 Percent Pay Rise
This is as a result of an interim arrangement negotiated between the Police Welfare Association (PWA) and the Spencer administration for a 7 per cent increase in the salaries of police officers.
The increase has been made retroactive from January 2005 and the policemen are expected to receive their monies by the end of September.
Chairman of the PWA Nuffield Burnette hinted that the delay in paying out the monies was due to the lateness in getting certain documentation together, but he explained that things were now moving along and the funds were well on the way.
Although negotiations are still ongoing Burnette said: “The fact that something is being done is a good indication we can hope for better things.”
As part of the arrangement, inspectors and ranks below, are poised to receive a 30 per cent increase in duty allowance, while superintendents and officers of higher ranks will receive a 20 per cent increase.
