ST. JOHN’S, Antigua, Jan. 23 - Regional airline LIAT Friday served notice to passengers that it would soon be implementing an added feature to its ‘Cabin Baggage Policy’, allowing passengers to take onboard only those bags which have been approved and bear a special tag.

LIAT’s Customer Service Director Sonya John said that the new feature was necessary, in order to regulate the acceptance of passenger carry-on baggage, due to the limited capacity for storing cabin baggage on its fleet, the Dash 8 aircraft.

We want to ensure that all passengers have the opportunity to take their valuables and items of convenience such as laptops and electronic items with them on board,” John said.

When the new feature is added to the policy, passengers would be asked to declare and present to check-in agents their carry-on luggage.

Those bags that meet the requirements of size, weight and quantity allotment would then be tagged with a ‘cabin approved’ baggage tag,” John explained.

Passengers would not be allowed to take onboard bags which do not bear a ‘cabin approved’ tag.”

Additional personal articles such as overcoats, crutches, braces or other prosthetic devices - for those passengers who need them - an infant’s bag or a (small) lady’s handbag would not be affected by the policy adjustment.
