St. Kitts/Nevis prepares for Digicel Caribbean Cup 2006
Basseterre---16 Sept. 2006---
St. Kitts and Nevis is in the middle of preparations for its participation in the Caribbean Football Union's Digicel Caribbean Cup 2006.
The Premier football tournament of
the Caribbean involves the member nations of the Caribbean Football
Union (C.F.U.) and is sponsored by Digicel.
St. Kitts and Nevis enters the 1st round through Group B which will be hosted in Antigua this September 20th through 24th.
Group B consists of 4 nations namely: Antigua & Barbuda, Anguilla, Barbados and St. Kitts & Nevis.
The top 2 finishers will graduate to round two of the Digicel Caribbean Cup.
This tournament is the 1st
official engagement for the Nation's Senior National Football Team
under the tutelage of the SKNFA's new Technical Director, Lenny Taylor.
Taylor has already asserted his
brand of football which is visible through the successes of the
National Under - 20 and 17 and the new structures of the Under 15 and
13 programmes.
Taylor has also implemented D and E coaching license
programmes for local coaches in the Federation.
Taylor sees the team's training as
a preparation for life; dispelling with old ways, building from the
ground up and seizing the opportunity to appreciate "what it takes to
play internationally."
The SKNFA, is keen on replicating
the zeal and successes of its junior National Teams into the senior
Men's Team, its Flagship team. This NEW outlook was further conveyed by
Peter Jenkins, the SKNFA President in his assertion that the football
plant/product is indeed On The Right Road. Jenkins commended the players and coaching staff for their hard work as evidenced in their input and effort.
Technical Director Lenny Taylor is making an appeal to Community leagues, Clubs and Coaches to refrain from utilizing members of the National Under - 20 and Senior National Team in their various competitions.
The Technical Director is concerned
with increased risk of injury and fatigue to the National Players.
Taylor would also prefer that these players be allowed to maintain
their focus on the tactical and technical preparations for National
service.
St. Kitts & Nevis participates in round 1 of the Digicel Caribbean Cup in Group B from Wednesday, September 20th through Sunday, September 24th in Antigua.
