Thursday, 06 November 2008
Image ORANJESTAD - Aruba Airport Authority N.V. (AAA) has received official notification from Copa Airlines that Aruba has been selected to become Copa Airlines' newest Caribbean destination. It has taken several years and dedicated efforts together with tourism partners Aruba Tourism Authority and the Aruba Hotel and Tourism Association to secure this important service. Air Service will be launched on Monday, December 15, 2008 with 4 weekly flights on Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturdays. Aircraft type to be used will be Embraer E190  with a seating capacity of 94 passengers of which 10 in business class and 84 in economy class.

Flights will be between Panama City, Panama and Aruba connecting to over 40 destinations in the Americas served by Copa Airlines.
AAA has actively been seeking and continues to seek opportunities in Latin America to complement its current air service network, especially in those countries with limited access to Aruba.  Copa Airlines is a perfect match and the destination will benefit tremendously from this service as not only will Aruba become more accessible to our visitors but locals will be able to benefit as well as there will be more connections throughout the Americas.

Copa Airlines is one of the leading airlines in Latin America. Copa currently offers approximately 126 daily scheduled flights to 42 destinations in 22 countries in North, Central and South America and the Caribbean.  In addition, Copa provides passengers with access to flights to more than 120 other international destinations through code share agreements with Continental Airlines and other airlines.  Copa is an associate member of the SkyTeam Global Alliance, which gives passengers access to more than 15,200 daily flights to more than 790 cities in 162 countries.

"We are extremely pleased with the announcement of Copa Airlines' newest destination being Aruba" Peter Steinmetz, Managing Director AAA N.V. declared. "With the airline industry currently experiencing extremely difficult times, news of new service comes at a perfect time. We have worked very hard over the years in courting Copa and appreciate the strong support from the Aruba Tourism Authority and the Aruba Hotel and Tourism Association that have helped tremendously in securing this success. We are committed and working together with Copa in securing the successful launch and continuation of this service. The new service will not only unlock more seat capacity to/from South America, it also ensures continued access to many Central American and Caribbean destinations, especially relevant now Aruba lost its San Juan flights this upcoming September"
