Sept. 21, 2008 -- Barbados is to host a major regional seminar featuring one of the biggest names in the Information and Communications Technology industry, Vinton Cerf. Cerf , widely regarded as the father of the Internet, will be the feature speaker at the Caribbean Telecommunications Union’s 6th Caribbean Ministerial Strategic Seminar to be held from 2 – 3 October 2008 at the Hilton Barbados.

According to Bernadette Lewis, Secretary General of the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU) “The event builds on the outcomes of the highly successful past Caribbean Ministerial Strategic Seminars and reinforces the case for regional collective action through the use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT).”

The Seminar is designed to provide Caribbean public and private sector leaders with a forum to explore the major business and policy issues shaping the region’s connectivity agenda for securing and advancing the Caribbean’s interest in the changing digital economy.

A number of Caribbean-thought leaders will be sharing the stage and facilitating dialogue at the meeting which includes topic such as “Technology Facilitating Transformation Under The Caribbean Single Market and Economy” and “Priorities for Caribbean Transformation” Ms Lewis added, “Through these seminars, the CTU is providing a forum for translating ideas from across the region into meaningful action for a connected and integrated Caribbean.”

The Seminar will be attended by Caribbean Government ministers and policy makers, senior members of the Caribbean corporate and academic communities, and other senior regional and international ICT stakeholders.
