
St. John's---6 Sept. 2006---A two-day Caribbean Food and Nutrition Institute (CFNI) training workshop in the collection of information on nutrition and physical activity as it relates to cardio vascular health gets underway at the Jolly Beach Resort on Thursday.
St. John's ---6 Sept. 2006---A two-day Caribbean Food and Nutrition Institute (CFNI) training workshop in the collection of information on nutrition and physical activity as it relates to cardio vascular health gets underway at the Jolly Beach Resort on Thursday.
Facilitator for the training sessions, CFNI Nutrition Educator Dr Pauline Samuda revealed that the training forms part of the Project funded by the International Cardiac Health in India.
She mentioned that the workshop tomorrow and Friday will bring together investigators from Belize, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the British Virgin Islands and host country Antigua and Barbuda to train them in focus group methodology and standardization in the data base collection.
She said that the information gathered will be used to develop educational materials that will help both health care workers and the public in the prevention and management of cardio vascular diseases.
On completion of the training, the investigators will return to their respective countries to conduct research and collect information from the population to find out what they know about physical activity and nutrition as it relates to cardio vascular health.
Dr. Samuda stated that so far research has been carried out in Grenada, Trinidad and Tobago and the Bahamas and the training of these other countries will bring the number to eight countries.From the information received, CFNI will be able to develop a proposal in order to get funding for the development of the educational material which will be used in CFNI affiliated countries.
