Jeff Berger, owner of the everythingstmaarten.com and everythingstmartin.com websites, the largest in the world devoted to that Caribbean island, said today that the websites will give away the St. Maarten / St. Martin vacations and more than a dozen gourmet dinners, island sails and other prizes as part of the celebration.

The top prizes are five St. Maarten vacations at island resorts, with two weeks on the island going to the Grand Prize winner.

An "Accident"

"The site was started accidentally," notes Jeff Berger of JMB Communications, the company that started the St. Maarten / St. Martin sites in 1995. Berger, who heads a marketing agency in Plymouth, Mass., says he posted a brief story about St. Maarten on his business website in 1996 as one of many writing samples.

"When the search engines kicked in, off it went. We initially had perhaps two dozen hits a week, but now we're getting thousands a week. The site has a significant impact on the St. Maarten and St. Martin businesses it mentions."
Berger's website contains an abundance of island information of interest to tourists and is updated daily. Berger also publishes a free weekly newsletter about the island on Mondays.
