Port-of-Spain---6 Sept. 2006---The Tourism Development Company Limited (TDC) has been inundated with inquiries from homeowners in Newtown, Woodbrook, St James, St Clair, Maraval, Cascade, St Ann’s and Port-of-Spain and its environs, who are desirous of opening their doors to visitors who will be coming to Trinidad and Tobago for Cricket World Cup in March, 2007.

Edward Lee Tang, Quality Control Specialist at TDC said the response to TDC’s advertisement inviting applications from these homeowners has been promising and positive, and just yesterday he had applications in excess of 50 properties each with three rooms.

However, it’s only after inspections carried out by the TDC will he be able to add to the stock of 33 properties each with three rooms.

“We are looking at an additional 300 rooms and what we are demanding is quality service for our guests,” Lee Tang said. Homeowners providing bed and breakfast services have up to 4 pm on Friday September 8, 2006, to complete and submit their applications to the TDC, along with copies of current home insurance documentation, public liability insurance documentation, food badges and a police certificate of character.

The TDC also wants potential applicants to note that a non-refundable registration fee of TT$100 will also apply. Then subsequent to the submission of completed applications, the TDC will conduct inspections of the properties to ensure that the minimum requirements are satisfied.

The price for rooms of some of the successful homeowners thus far ranges between US$25 and US$70 per night, depending on the amenities they are offering.

But inspection will be on an ongoing basis to ensure proper service is meted out to the visitors to our shores next year.
