GECOM’s  Chief Election Officer, Gocool Boodoo declares the Elections results at Le Meridien Pegasus.

Chief Election Officer of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), Gocool Boodoo in announcing the results this evening, indicated that he is extremely satisfied with the conduct of the Elections, adding that this it is the first time the Commission has been able to declare the final results within three days.

The People’s National Congress Reform-1 Guyana (PNCR-1G) secured 22 seats in the National Assembly by securing 34 percent of total votes cast.

New comer, Alliance For Change (AFC) earned five seats in the National Assembly having secured eight percent of the votes cast in the Elections.

Guyana Action Party – Rise Organise and Rebuild (GAP-ROAR), and The United Force (TUF) each secured a seat.

When questioned at to whether they have endorsed the results of the Elections, Opposition-nominated Commissioner Robert Williams stated that “we would not have been here if we did not endorse these results”.

The diplomatic community and international observers including the Carter Centre, Organisation of American States (OAS) Commonwealth and CARICOM have lauded the conduct of the Elections and have congratulated the Guyanese people for the maturity displayed during the process.

GECOM will start the process of gazetting the results tomorrow, while the Presidential inauguration ceremony will take place on September 2, at State House.
