We want to make a difference
St. George's, Grenada - May 6, 2008 -- Port Louis Chairman; Peter de Savary has said that the benefits of high quality tourism investment are beginning to pay big dividends for Grenada. Speaking after the announcement of a new American Airlines non-stop service to Grenada, Mr. de Savary said that he and other investors were happy to be able to play a major part in securing this service. "When I came to Grenada I promised the Grenadian public that we would work with the Government and the private sector to help to stimulate the tourism sector. We are delivering on that promise. Port Louis and Camper & Nicholsons Marinas have paid over 1 million EC dollars to American Airlines on behalf of the Government, to ensure that we get a non-stop American Airlines service here, "Mr. de Savary said.
The Government's Airlift Committee was tasked with raising $1.5M USD to cover the bond that was posted by government to secure the American Airlines flights. "By having high end investors like Port Louis, Cinnamon 88, St. George's University and others, in a country it makes a huge difference and provides funding and strategic linkages which will benefit the entire country. When investors like Mr. Paul Taylor, Mr. Robin Patterson or myself start a project we do not just do it for personal reasons. We genuinely want to impact people's lives; we want to make a difference. We want to help Governments improve the lives of people. This American Airlines deal which we have helped secure, is a perfect example of this," Mr. de Savary remarked.
From November 20th 2008, American Airlines has agreed to schedule a 148 passenger Boeing 737 to depart Miami at 5.00pm and arrive in Grenada 3 hours later, the plane will overnight and then return to Miami departing at 8.30am the following morning. Not only does this increase direct US passenger traffic into the island by over 1000 seats a week but it also enables anyone in the Continental US to connect to and from the flight in one day.
Direct US flights have been lagging to Grenada since Hurricane Ivan and the airlift committee under the Chairmanship of Michael McIntyre has been working hard to ensure their return.
