Institute of Journalism and UNESCO, the workshop is expected to meet
the need to create a relevant communication strategy as a way to
contribute to minimize the number of victims and the material losses
caused by hurricanes in the Caribbean.
Keeping the population informed and guiding them
before, during and after the passing of hurricanes is of the utmost
importance y action to minimize damages. Thus the workshop is aimed
at providing journalists with broad information about such weather
phenomena.
With the objective of providing journalists with
broad information about such weather phenomena, professors from the
Juan Dolset Scientific and Environment Journalist Office, experts
from the Ministry of Science, Technology and the Environment and
specialists from the General Staff of Civil Defense, among others
will give lectures and lead debate sessions as part of the academic
program of the workshop.
Climate change, hurricanes in the Caribbean, the
role and vision of the mass media together with Civil Defense and
journalistic practices in the coverage of hurricanes are some of the
topics to be dealt with in the event.
