Wake up Montserrat, it is rear to have an opportunity knock twice. What will it take for you to consider one of your own? Montserrat has potential as a tourist destination. Look at Lanzarote, a truly volcanic island with little vegetation and it draws thousands of tourists there each year. People are waiting for you to get your transportation act together. Give him a chance, his child may marry yours. one day.

Our annual leave is booked for 2 weeks in July (in only 3 months time). I've booked the flights from London to Antigua. As a family of four we are looking forward to visiting Montserrat for a few days and to see my wife’s relatives again after some years; all we need to do is book the connection to Montserrat.
But, horror of horrors, the Winair on-line booking form just goes to the end of June 2008, and their 'helpful' customer support staff tell us that they will no longer be flying to Montserrat after July.
We are now in a quandary! How do we get to Montserrat? I assume this situation stems from some not-so-subtle commercial brinkmanship, but this is not helpful to either our plans or Montserrat’s strategy of encouraging the return of tourist like ourselves.
Please would someone just let us know when I can book the flights (or a ferry!), or should we plan to be disappointed?

Don't even try to book Winair via the internet even if you could. We tried for our trip in January, after we 'booked' Winair contacted us wanting more very sensitive financial info which they declined to assure us they could keep secure. We rebooked via Runaway Travel. Winair refunded our original booking money £30 short. Crooks. The sooner we sort out a way to get people on to the island for a fair price and with
ease, the sooneer we stand a chance of
getting the economy moving.

It is disheartening to see another airline company wants to come in when we had our very own...Mr.Rogers..Every effort should be made to give Mr. Rogers the help he needs...He is our own..flesh of our flesh and so on....OR give us back the ferry...

THis is a ploy. Winair says every year they will not fly after June30, they will or someone else will.
Be patient you will get to Montserrat, they just don't make it easy for tourist. Surprised anyone can get there.

Thanks for all your responses, but as I sit here in London with only 2.5 months to go before our holiday we still can't book flights from Antigua to Montserrat in July (unless someone out there knows something I don't?)
For all your amusement I can get to the following places in July:
Manus, in the heart of the Amazon rainforest, flying with Brazilian airline – TAN,
The Falklands, flying with Lan Chile Airways, and
Timbucktu, flying with Air Mali;
……but we like challenging itineraries, so we’ll stick with Montserrat.
I see ‘Rebuilding the Private Sector as the Engine for Growth’ was the recent budget theme, and that government ministers have recently been in negotiation with air service providers which ‘might allow us to get cheaper flights into Montserrat’.
I hope the deal being negotiated is worth the wait as it’s clear that in the meantime no tourists, let alone private sector tourist companies, can make any plans to bring our pounds, euros and dollars to Montserrat.
I guess we’ll just try and be patient and keep reading the posts on the Montserrat Recorder.

Do you really believe the airline propaganda that there will be no flights to Montserrat come July. This is a ploy. I know you are eager to book as the seats are limited, but persistence pays off. Wait and you will see.

Perspective for would-be visitors

People planning to visit Montserrat need to remember just how small this tiny country is. Its present population (the factor that tends to control things like transport connections) is just below 5000 and thus the same as only a smallish town elsewhere. For instance, the 2001 UK census showed Barnard Castle in County Durham (probably known only to rugby football fanatics) to contain about 5300 residents. For another example, the island of Arran (near Glasgow, Scotland) has about 4500 residents. Obviously neither of these places is a big city, like Manaus and Timbuktu. To get to either Barnard Castle or Arran, you first go to the nearest city and then organise the final link on your arrival. This is also the way to approach visiting Montserrat. Go to Antigua airport and sort out the final hop there. Apart from such temporary problems as storms and overturned fire trucks, a regular air or sea link between Antigua and Montserrat is a political necessity for both the Montserrat government and the UK. Relax and be sure that “something will come along”. That’s part of the extraordinary charm of the place! During the summer months that something should not be too crowded.

Montserrat Airways, Ltd., is a splendid, public-private sector addition to Montserrat's communications service. The Government should bring back the ferry to complete a viable transportation system.

I am a bajan who has visited and likes the difference mrat affords, however what is disheartening is the unreliable service offerd once you land in a'ga .last year i nearly had a panic attack when my family and i were due to leave and we were informed that winair was experiencing some problem or other, well u cuold imagine my mind going well, well, well!!!I swore never again so it would be good to have a reliable and safe carrier it would benefit all concerned.i have my bajan possee standing by waiting to visit your paradise really.whenever i visit i sleep well and am rested.you all should agitate for a better service one way or the other and it makes little esense if the new eproposal will earn the same results ie FRUSTRATION for an eager visitor like myself.
