St. John's, Antigua -- August 27, 2007 -- Stay-over visitor arrivals via VC Bird International Airport to Antigua and Barbuda totaled 23,450 in July 2007, having grown by three percent. This growth is represented by the additional 686 visitors that arrived in the destination as opposed to the 22,764 that visited last July.  

According to statistics gathered on the country's main markets by the Research Unit within the Ministry of Tourism, Canada received the strongest growth of 26%, followed by the US with an increase of 14% and the UK with 13%.

Growth was also noted in the non-traditional markets such as the Italian (6%) and German (4%) markets, while the French market showed a slight decline.

Within the Caribbean region there has been a decline of 17% when compared to arrivals received last July.

Director General of Tourism, Lorraine Headley indicated that a number of factors inclusive of persons traveling for the carnival celebrations, vacation, or to visit family and friends, contributed to the significant growth received from the various markets in July.

Stayover arrivals for the year to date amounts to 159,014 visitors.
