Risks reduced but hazards from dome remain
Brades, Montserrat -- August 25, 2007 --His Excellency the Governor, Mr. Peter Waterworth, with the support of all members of the Volcano Executive Group (VEG), has announced that the remaining properties in the Old Towne area may be re-occupied on a full time basis from Wednesday 22 August 2007.
The gates
in the vicinity of Old Towne will be moved to allow access to all properties in the area. The Vue Pointe Hotel will be permitted to re-open for business with the exception of allowing guests to overnight.
However, there will be no access to the floor of the Belham Valley to include Old Road Beach and the low-rising areas at the bottom of Happy Hill and Dr. Woods.
Gates have been re-positioned to a point just south of the access road to the Isles Bay Plantation properties, and one at the top of the road leading to Old Road Beach. The existing gates in lower Happy Hill and above Dr. Woods will remain in place.
All returning residents must be aware that although the risks have reduced, the hazards from the dome remain, therefore should there be an increase in volcanic activity and / or the imminent threat of a storm or a hurricane they must be prepared to move north at short notice.
For residents seeking access to properties in the Waterworks and Isles Bay Hill areas the access conditions remain unchanged and access is on designated days of the week.
