On The Trail of Jack Sparrow in St. Vincent & Grenadines: 5 Day Packages from $840 per Person
NEW YORK, NY, August 16, 2006 - As the natural
backdrop for the 2006 blockbuster hit “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s
Chest” (and its prequel “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black
Pearl”), St. Vincent and the Grenadines sets the stage for swashbuckling
escapades by land and sea.
Treasure seekers of adventure
can embark on a quest to the “Jewels of the Caribbean,” as the island
archipelago is affectionately known, with five-day/four-night “Pirates of the
Caribbean” packages, mapping the very same captivating islands and hidden coves
of turquoise waters that are featured in the films.
Capturing the unspoiled
natural treasures of this tropical paradise, these five-day tours showcase the
destination’s pristine beaches and waterfalls, historic and cultural sites, and
film locations from the “Pirates” movies. Starting at $840 per person,
based on double occupancy, this modern-day buccaneer journey features
accommodations at the Mariners Hotel in St. Vincent; daily activities; guides; airport transfers; some meals;
and roundtrip airfare with Caribbean Star Airlines from Barbados.
Day 1: Venture forth to the country’s
capital and base of operations for the movies’ cast and crew. Upon
arrival, guests will track their compass to the southernmost tip of the island
and their “captain’s quarters” at the waterfront Mariners Hotel. At
sundown, a bounty of delicious cuisine awaits at the French Verandah
restaurant, overlooking Villa beach.
Day 2: At sunup, salty dogs take to the sea
on a guided tour by boat to explore the picturesque leeward coast, navigating
quaint fishing villages, mysterious caves, historic forts and glistening black
sand beaches. Step ashore in Wallilabou Bay, St. Vincent’s westernmost
port and home to the movie set for the town of Port Royal. Swim and snorkel
the cove’s emerald waters, frequented by dolphins.
Day 3: The quest leads to pirates’ loot on
land, winding through the cobblestone streets, colonial buildings and
magnificent churches of St. Vincent’s capital city of Kingstown. Explore
the 200-year-old Fort Charlotte, perched 600 feet above the sea, offering
panoramic views of the Grenadine islands. Further exploration of the
leeward coast reveals a secret passage to Dark View Falls, via a bamboo
bridge. Surrounded by bamboo groves and two dramatic waterfalls, delight
in an afternoon picnic.
Day 4: This morning, seafarers join the
Admiral II ferry on a one-hour journey to Bequia. This charming island
steeped in maritime history measures just seven square miles and boasts some of
the best beaches in the Grenadines. Join your guide to the lookout point
of Fort Hamilton, with views of the lovely Port Elizabeth, before continuing on
to Spring, home to Bequian native “Brother King,” a local fisherman turned
conservationist for an introduction to his sanctuary for Hawksbill
turtles. Stroll the Belmont Walkway, tracing the coastline, and
commandeer souvenirs at model boat shops.
Day 5: Bid farewell to the pirate’s life,
returning with a treasure trove of gem-like memories.
