Youth month observed in April
Castries, St. Lucia -- May 5, 2007 – When the Youth Parliamentarians meet on Tuesday May 8, 2007 for the eleventh Youth Parliament, present shall be the Saint Lucia Cadet Corps.
The Corps shall be represented by the Entrepot Secondary School.
Participation in the National Youth Parliament is in keeping with the
DRAFT Saint Lucia Cadet Corps Ten Year Strategic Plan 2006 – 2016 and Strategic Goal 10: "To establish links with other youth organizations locally and overseas."
Originally set for Thursday April 26, it was decided to postpone the
Youth Parliament in deference to the sitting of the Adult Parliamentarians
for the presentation and debate of the Annual Budget.
The Youth Parliament is expected debate the resolution "that the
government of Saint Lucia should invest all necessary resources in a sustained attack on poverty with the aim of providing better life chances for our youth and the opportunity for them to participate meaningfully in and thereby accelerate National Development."
Youth Parliament forms part of activities in observance of youth month
observed in April each year, during which young people imitate
Parliamentary proceedings and is an opportunity for the Cadets to learn the art of debate and public speaking. The Theme for the 2007 Youth Month is "Preparing our youth for the global challenges."
Established 13th July 1929, the Saint Lucia Cadet Corps is a
para-military youth organization in Secondary Schools established under the laws of Saint Lucia - The Saint Lucia Cadet Corps Act No. 23 of 2005. Recognizing this, the Ministry of Education has set the Saint Lucia Cadet Corps the mandate to work with the Youth of the Nation. Recently the mandate was reconfirmed by the Ministry and the Corps is expected to have a Unit within each of the twenty five Secondary Schools and Community College.
