Belize City -- March 15, 2007 – Belize had the
privilege of hosting Sport Diver Magazine and Fly Fishing of the World who were
here to each cover a story on Belize’s marine adventures.
Fly Fishing The World is a weekly television program featuring
a celebrity guest who, with the show's creator and host, John Barrett,
fly-fishes and enjoys some of the most beautiful and unique waters this world
has to offer. The program appears on
Versus, formerly the Outdoor Life Network to an audience of one million.
On their trip to Belize, Mr. Barrett brought with him the
famous Scottish actor and comedian Mr. Billy Connolly who was the main star of
the film. The crew of six spent a total
of 5 days in Belize at El Pescador, San Pedro, where they were able to fly-fish
the flats around Ambergris Caye for bonefish.
The show will highlight the extraordinary salt water fly fishing found
in the area of Ambergris Caye as well as feature an introductory segment on
Belize. The show will air in April of
2007 and reruns will air many times during the course of the year.
Sport Diver Magazine also visited in February to cover a
full feature story of 8 to 12 pages on Belize.
Their itinerary included visits to Spanish Lookout Caye, Ambergris Caye
and the Turneffe Atoll. They spent
their time mostly diving and dining while also spending some time kayaking,
hiking and enjoying the beaches.
Sport Diver Magazine is written for members of the
Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) and edited for underwater
enthusiasts for whom diving is a life-long activity. Features include diving
adventure, sea science, exotic travel, advanced instruction and personality
profiles. The magazine is circulated to
approximately 203,380 readers yearly.
“This is an excellent opportunity for Belize to gain
considerable exposure to the dive and fishing niche market,” comments Director
of Tourism, Tracy Panton. “These trips
are made possible with the support of the private sector, which enables these
press groups to expose Belize worldwide through their astounding words,
pictures and videos depicting the wonderful experience they had while in
Belize.”
