Sunday Mail UK, August 6, 2006... Bosses of Scottish low-cost airline Zoom yesterday revealed new flights to America and the Caribbean. The firm, owned by Scots travel entrepreneurs Hugh and John Boyle, already offers flights between the UK and Canada.
The move comes after the Bank of Scotland acquired a 7.5 per cent stake in Zoom as part of a £5.7million investment package.
The new destinations are thought to include New York, Boston, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Mexico and the Caribbean.
Zoom
director John Boyle, who also launched Direct Holidays in the 1990s and
sold it for £84million eight years ago, said: "For such a prestigious
organisation as the Bank of Scotland to take an equity stake in our
airline is a tremendous vote of confidence. In the last four years we
have changed the face of tourism between Scotland and Canada.
"Legacy
carriers such as British Airways have always wanted to protect their
high fares by telling leisure travellers what to do.
"We have never treated our flyers as second class."
David
Wilson, director of Bank of Scotland growth equity, said: "We view Zoom
as a successful and innovative carrier with a considerable reputation
for quality as well as value for money.
"It is an exceptional growth opportunity."
