Havana, Cuba --- 29 Dec., 2006 --- (ACN) The Caribbean island nation of Grenada will implement the Cuban Literacy Campaign "Yo si puedo" (Yes I Can) next January 8th, for the first time in English language.

Cuba's minister of Education, Luis Gomez said that the presentation of the program was done at the Trade Center of the capital Saint Georges. It was attended by the Governor of the Fund and of the Bank of Grenada, Anthony Boatswain, who said that this effort was essential to the development of his country and of great help for its children.  The official recalled at the gathering, the quality and positive results of the literacy campaign carried out by the government of Maurice Bishop in that Caribbean island with the assistance of Cuba.

The coordinator of the campaign, Oscar Sanchez, spoke of the achievements of the "Yes I Can" campaign in other countries, and explained the work done by Cuban specialists of the Latin American and Caribbean Pedagogical Institute (IPLAC in Spanish), the Educational Television and the Literacy Department of the Ministry of Education in the implementation of this campaign in Grenada. The Cuban ambassador to Grenada, Margarita Delgado, said that the implementation of the "Yes I Can" program fulfils the agreements set in the meeting of the Joint Commission of Cooperation held in 2005, and highlighted the fruitful diplomatic relations between Cuba and Grenada for over 20 years.

The Cuban literacy program "Yes, I Can," recognized by UNESCO, will be taught for the first time in English in the Caribbean country of Granada.

The presentation of the campaign took place at the Trade Center of Saint George City, where the Grenadian minister of Finance, Anthony Boatswian, called the program essential for his country, as well as an inevitable aid for its children.

The minister recalled the quality, quantity and positive results of the Literacy Campaign, advised by Cuba, which was carried out during the government of Maurice Bishop in that Caribbean country.

The coordinator of the Campaign, Oscar Sanchez, mentioned the achievements of the method "Yes, I Can" in other countries.
