Castries, Saint Lucia --- 26 Dec., 2006 – The Saint Lucia Cadet Corps is proud to announce the creation of its latest Unit at the St Joseph’s Convent, under the Command of Under Officer Yasmin Monrose.  This brings the number of Units within the Corps to twenty [20].

The Saint Lucia Cadet Corps is a para-military youth organization, sponsored by the Government of Saint Lucia, through the Ministry of Education, Human Resource Development, Youth and Sports, and takes part in both para-military and community activities.

The Ministry of Education has given the Corps the mandate to have a Unit in every Secondary School on the island and in 2000, the Ministry gave its blessings for the Saint Lucia Cadet Corps to expand itself beyond the Secondary School level to the Senior Primary School level.

The Cadet Corps was established July 13th, 1929 with a Unit at the St Mary’s College and for forty five [45] years was an exclusive male organization. In 1974, females first joined the organization when a Unit was formed at the Castries Comprehensive School.

The expansion of the Saint Lucia Cadet Corps continued in 1968 with the formation of a second unit at the Vieux Fort Comprehensive Secondary School. Since then, cadet units continued to be established at every secondary school on the island.  The Corps takes this oppetunity to welcome this latest Unit to the family.

Recently the Corps has moved into an era of revitalization with development in areas such as:

· New Legislation

· Ten Year Strategic Plan and

· Disaster Management Plan

Strategic Goal 2 within the Ten Year Strategic Plan is to increase the numbers of cadets in the Corps.  The Saint Lucia Cadet Corps is guided by its motto: “LEADERSHIP – DISCIPLINE - SERVICE”
